Bedrooms

The original 1885 house plans included three bedrooms and a "servant's quarters". We chose to stay true to the original design, with two "guest bedrooms" (the two photos at the top of the page) and a master bedroom. The master bedroom has an adjacent master bath and an exterior door to a covered, second-story porch.

The master bedroom also includes a restored, late- 1800's, wood-burning stove. In the original plans, a narrow staircase went from the servant's quarters down to the kitchen. We eliminated this back staircase, which left room for a guest bathroom on the second floor, and a small "powder bath" on the first floor (see Bathrooms page). The servant's quarters are currently being used as a sewing room; this room would serve well as an additional bedroom, or as a nursery. The original house plans included just one bathroom, and it was a large master bath.

The Master bath It is quite grand and well-appointed. It has stunning views of the entire acreage. A bathroom of this size and layout would have been a very opulent feature for a house of this day, and is one of the elements that would have made the original house an exceptional Victorian.
